Two intertwining and parallel love stories – one current – A young Muslim woman and an older non-Muslim man – The other, in the past, a young gay black man, a Griot, and his white lover.
Khadija and Keith meet and fall in love. But they are torn apart, but love triumphs and they reunite.
Born out of suffering and abuse they work together to create a work of stunning beauty. But Khadija dies leaving Keith to carry on alone.
Without Khadija, devastated and depressed, Keith loses the will to complete alone, what they had created together. But the work is too important to abandon, so Khadija returns from beyond to help him complete what they started.
The Griot and his lover meet and fall in love, but have to keep their love secret.
When they are discovered violence follows and the lover is killed.
The Griot watches over Khadija and Keith, providing commentary, and sharing experience and wisdom as the two lovers navigate the obstacles in front of them.
Both relationships end in tragedy, but true love never dies…
Across time, distance, and even death, love flourishes and though apart, love continues until the lovers are finally reunited.
